Charlotte Baxter Pottery.
My studio is at the bottom of my garden in a converted summerhouse, here I develop my practice and teach others how to throw on the wheel. I love in particular throwing on the wheel functional vessels and coiling sculptured vases.
Pottery is more to me than just a way to earn a living. Clay is an instrument of understanding — a way to look for meaning, truth and harmony in my life. Working in the arts also gives me the opportunity to bring a small degree of joy and beauty into other people’s lives, which helps me to find my place in the world.
I have a degree in Fine art photography and I use both mediums as inspiration for my art. The lens became my tool for capturing my surroundings and nature has always been a great source of inspiration, this influences my practice. I am drawn to the light, texture and shapes captured in ‘moving’ photographs of the landscape in the Pennines and I am currently exploring ways to merge these two mediums together.
